Sony has announced a new PS3 at the Tokyo Games Show which is even smaller and lighter than the current one. It will be offered in 250GB and 500GB HDD versions as well as a 12GB flash memory variant and is expected to roll out to gamers in the US, Europe and Japan during the holiday season.
This model features a new design and Sony says it has managed to reduce the weight and volume by more than half when compared with the original 60GB system. Also, against the current version, the new PS3 occupies 20% less volume and weighs 25% less.
North American fans can expect a bundle-only version coming their way which will have a 250GB HDD and come with a copy of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception: Game of the Year Edition. The limited edition pack will also contain a voucher with over $30 worth of digital content for Dust 514 and will be made available at a price of $269.99 on September 25, 2012. In addition, there will also be a 500GB version of the new console bundled with Assassin’s Creed III which should sell for $299.99.
For Europe, the deal is sweetened with the latest FIFA installment and flash memory. A 500GB PS3 bundle will come with a copy of FIFA 13 on September 28 and is expected to retail at €299.99. A 12GB flash memory version is set to be lighter on the wallet at €229.99. It is scheduled for launch on October 12 and owners will be able to connect a 5-inch SATA HDD using an official Sony mounting bracket.
As far as we can tell, Japan will get the new PS3 Super Slim, as it’s called, on October 4, 2012. The 250GB and 500GB versions are to be offered at 24,900 Yen and 29,800 Yen respectively. Also, the white console comes to the island nation in November.
