Sony announces 13MP Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M5 for the selfie crowd

Sony has announced two new selfie-focused mid-range smartphones, the Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5, continuing its formula of producing handsets with advanced camera capabilities and decent specs. There’s no specific word on the price or release date yet. The company says the phones will be available in select countries across emerging markets in mid-August.

The 4G-ready Sony Xperia C5 Ultra has a 13MP autofocus camera on the front and back. They both come with LED flash, image and video stabilization, full HD recording, an Exmor RS sensor and 4x digital zoom. The selfie snapper has been equipped with a 22mm wide-angle lens with an 88-degree field of view, enabling users to include more people in the shot.

Moving on to other specs, the Xperia C5 Ultra has a 6-inch IPS 1080p display with a narrow bezel and an aluminum frame. It runs on Android Lollipop 5.0, a 1.7GHz 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MTK6752 SoC and 2GB of RAM. The device has a 2930mAh battery which the brand claims can last up to two days. It contains 16GB of ROM, expandable till 200GB.

The Sony Xperia M5 is smaller than its counterpart with a 5-inch full HD screen, but has been blessed with a better quality 21.5MP rear camera accompanied by Hybrid Autofocus, ISO up to 3200, 4K video recording and 5x digital zoom. It also has a faster processor, a 2GHz 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, and contains 3GB of RAM.

The 4G-enabled handset has been further fortified with IP65 and IP68 certification to make it dust-tight and waterproof. The Xperia M5 is being termed as a ‘super mid-range’ device by the brand, which has bestowed upon it what is called an OmniBalance design with glass on both sides and stainless steel corners to protect against knocks.

The Sony phone contains Android Lollipop 5.0 and is powered by a 2600mAh battery that the company similarly asserts lasts for two days. It also has the same 16GB of ROM, expandable up to 200GB. Both devices can be connected through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, microUSB 2.0, A-GPS and GLONASS. They will be available in both single and dual SIM variants.

The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra can be bought in black, white and soft mint colors, while the Xperia M5 will be sold in white, gold and black versions.
