Sony a57 translucent mirror camera coming soon

Sony α57 01

The Sony a57 is gearing up to enter markets as a successor to the a55 model. The primary highlights of this DSLR camera include the use of the translucent mirror technology, 12fps shooting capabilities, and more.

The translucent mirror system is designed to simultaneously direct incoming light towards the Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor as well as the AF sensor. This allows continuous, full-time auto focus while capturing videos and images. The 16MP snapper is also capable of recording videos with a speed of up to 12 frames per second by using the tele-zoom continuous advance priority AE mode.

“Today’s DSLR consumer is looking for a higher level of control and flexibility in their camera. With the introduction of the new α57, we’re bringing blazing fast response rates, enhanced artistic capabilities and other advanced features to the mainstream DSLR marketplace, offering professional-grade performance at affordable prices,” explained Mike Kahn, director of the Alpha camera business group for Sony Electronics.

Equipped with a 15-point AF system plus 3 cross sensors, this fresh device will also include the new Auto Portrait Framing feature. The attribute should enable photography enthusiasts to create enhanced images by using a blend of face detection and the rule of thirds. After recognizing the subject’s position, it trims the scene to generate tightly framed pictures. The exterior surface sports a 7.5cm Xtra Fine LCD screen, which can tilt downwards up to 180° or about 270° towards left.

The Sony a57 price and availability have been revealed for all eager beavers out there. The SLT-A57K which comes along with an 18mm – 55mm kit zoom lens is tagged at $800, while the SLT-A57 body-only model can be picked up for $700. The latest device is expected to release across the globe by April this year.
