WhatsApp’s had an open beta program for its Android and Windows Phone apps for years now, allowing people to chime in with bug reports while trying out the latest features ahead of anyone else. iPhone owners have largely been left out of this process since the company has restricted testers to a very small pool of users.
This ends now, with WABetaInfo reporting that WhatsApp has opened its own official beta program for iOS. Anyone can join, but slots are limited. If you’re thinking of joining, it would be better to do so as quickly as possible. To get started, you’ll have to download the TestFlight app from the App Store.
How To Join WhatsApp for iPhone Beta
Once TestFlight gets installed, you have to go here to request a slot in WhatsApp’s iPhone beta program. Once you’ve done this, you’ll get redirected to TestFlight. The page will ask you to accept the terms and conditions for joining the WhatsApp beta build, following which you can set up the app on your iPhone.
Note that when you install the WhatsApp for iOS beta, a pop-up will ask you if you want to replace the current app version with the test version. It’ll also warn you that you might lose the app’s data. WABetaInfo says your information is safe and won’t get deleted, but it’s best to back up all your chats just in case.
In fact, it would be a good idea to constantly back up WhatsApp data since beta software is generally volatile. Anything can go wrong with experimental builds, so it’s best to be prepared. The beta app typically gets updated once every two days.
As a beta tester, it’ll be your job to report any irregularities. You can do so by going to Contact Us within WhatsApp Settings. The page will ask you to describe your problem and attach a screenshot.
