Cortana vs. Siri: Guess who won in Microsoft’s new ad?

Cortana and Siri are two of the hottest personal assistants around, so which one do you think would win in a head-to-head challenge doing what they do best? According to Microsoft, it’s Cortana of course and the giant’s latest ad focuses on how much better its software is compared to Curpertino’s.

Well, the video doesn’t really play fair. But it does showcase some of Cortana’s capabilities, while Siri is portrayed as the naysayer with an inability to carryout simple tasks. When asked to set a reminder for ‘when my wife calls remind me to tell her happy anniversary,’ the former assistant does so within moments, but Apple’s software simply states that it cannot.

Well, Siri might not be able to remind you when a call arrives, but it will definitely set a reminder about the anniversary. And obviously it can do the other things shown in the video as well. Now, the personal assistant from Apple can be found on latest devices, while Cortana on the other hand, isn’t widely available as yet. And so far, it’s shipping with only the Lumia 630 and Lumia 930 smartphones.

You’ll also find it included with the Windows Phone 8.1 update being rolled out for Nokia phones, but the feature is limited to select markets for now. For more information on Cortana’s capabilities, be sure to check out the video below.

In other news, Microsoft is reportedly planning to port Cortana to its Windows desktop platform as well as rival operating systems such as Android and iOS. This could very well be a possibility considering that Google Now is already on Apple devices.
