The Windows 8 Upgrade Offer registration is now up and running for eligible users who wish to update their PCs to Microsoft’s latest desktop OS. The promotion is valid for all qualified Windows 7 rigs which will be purchased until January 31, 2013.

The procedure to register is quite simple. On picking up a new computer that meets the specified requirements, users need to visit the Windows 8 Upgrade Offer website. Here, they will be needed to fill up certain details including purchase and retailer information as well as the system make and model, that are said to vary based on country or region selected.

“Today, registration is officially open for the Windows Upgrade Offer we announced in May. If you purchase or have purchased an eligible Windows 7 PC anytime between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013 you will be able to purchase an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for only $14.99 (U.S.) which will be redeemable when Windows 8 is generally available on October 26th. Once you’ve purchased your PC you can come back and register for the offer,” states Brandon LeBlanc, Communications Manager at Microsoft through a post on the official Windows blog.

To complete the registration, a valid 25-digit Windows 7 product key will also be required. The promo codes will be sent out by Microsoft starting October 26 through email along with instructions. The last date for redeeming the offer is said to be February 28, 2013. The promotion is applicable in 140 countries worldwide, that’s 9 more additions since the last announcement, with 37 languages in its support list.

Those who have purchased an eligible PC on or after June 2, 2012, are entitled to the $14.99 Windows 8 Pro promotion. Purchases made prior to the specified date will be able to update to the latest platform for $39.99. The registration page is now live through the Windows Upgrade Offer website, as previously noted.
