Google Maps Version 4.4 rolled out for enhanced location-based services

Google Maps 4.4

Just a while ago, we reported on Google Maps stretching to Virgin America touchscreens. Now, to offer users augmented location-based services, Google Maps for Android has been updated with the release of Google Maps for mobile 4.4, reveals the official Google Mobile blog.

Users can quickly find places with a dedicated Places icon which displays updated Places pages for added information. Google Maps 4.4 offers users the new Places icon in the app launcher on Android-powered phones. Users can press and drag it on their homescreen to make use of it when searching a restaurant or theater and other types of local business. Searching for places is made easy with the default search categories and tags of most frequent searches by users.

The Places Page provides all the information about a place in detail with photos for easier understanding. It also displays reviews, menu links, parking spaces, prices and more. The search results display business opening hours in addition to compass direction and distance to the searched location.

Google Maps for mobile 4.4 is now available to users owning Android 1.6 handsets and above. The Place Page and search result updates will be available shortly and can be searched through smartphones’ BlackBerry Browser.
