Skype for Windows 8 unveiled ahead of launch

Skype For Windows 8

The Skype for Windows 8 application is now out in the open and according to Microsoft, the software is designed with an aim to deliver a completely new experience to users. The app will be up for grabs the very same day the latest iteration to the Windows platform makes its commercial launch.

Apart from being simple, the company states that navigating throughout the application is convenient and the UI appears to be quite intuitive as well. The new interface is said to focus more on things that matter. The very moment the application is launched, users will be presented with recent chat messages and calls as well as a grid of people who are frequently contacted. Adding someone to the favorites list isn’t a hard task here and carrying out this operation shouldn’t take more than a click.

The reworked layout allows users to commence voice calls to landlines and mobile phones easily through a fresh dial pad. It also provides details related to Skype Credit, active subscriptions and recent calls in a single layout. The application comes with an always-on capability which keeps the service running in the background without the risk of decreasing the battery life. This means that chats, voice calls and video calls can be received even if users navigate away from the app or are accessing another tool.

On installing the software, users will see it as a live tile which provides notifications whenever a missed call or a new message is received. The official Skype blog states that the application has been designed to work well with multiple input devices such as a keyboard and a mouse or a touchscreen. Users will also be able to run another Windows 8 app simultaneously with Skype in a side-by-side layout.

Skype for Windows 8 will be available for download on October 26 through the Windows Store.
