Internet communications company Skype together with mobile operator 3 have launched a new and affordable mobile phone that allows the user to make free Skype to Skype calls and send free Skype instant messages to other Skype users.
Called the 3 Skypephone, this fully-featured 3G Internet phone comes pre-loaded with Skype functionality. Besides making Skype calls, users can also make conventional calls and can also be used to access 3’s broad range of other Internet services.
This happens to be the first time that an operator- in this case 3- has offered a mass market device which is tailor-made for free calling over the Internet from a mobile.
The new 3 Skypephone handset was developed by Skype and 3 in partnership with Qualcomm, suing QUALcomm’s BREW platform to enable Skype to work with core handset features such as address book and messaging.
Measuring just 100x44x13.6mm, the 3 Skypephone is a small and shiny handset that comes in black or white with blue or pink trim.
The 3 Skypephone mobile phone offers users a number of features including a 2 mega pixel camera, MP3 player, mobileTV and Internet.

The 3 Skypephone will be available from November 2 in 3Stores across the UK. Besides, the phone will also be available later this year in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Macau and Sweden. The 3 Skypephone costs GBP49.99 (approx Rs. 4,065).
