Seagate recently unveiled its next generation hard drive that is efficiently optimized for continuous usage. Dubbed as the Seagate SV35.5, the robust hard drive is enabled for high-performance in digital video surveillance systems. Built for 24×7 operations, the hard drive is also highly reliable and supports storage capacities of up to 1TB.
A unique blend of performance, capacity, acoustics and power consumption, the Seagate SV35.5 hard drive is structured for rigorous usage. Allowing easy incorporation of SDVR, the video surveillance solution offers many advantages over standard hard drives. With performance-tuned 140MB/s sustained sequential data rates, the hard drive is integrated with ATA-7 streaming commands that enable high-speed data transfers.
Bundled with advanced caching capabilities, the SV35.5 hard drive comes with an on-board error recovery system. This takes care of non-stop streaming, distinct user-selectable partitioning, thermal monitoring and reporting and reduced spin-up power. The hard drive is also packed with best-of-the-breed acoustics that deliver extremely silent operation.
“The hardware requirements for the surveillance market are especially critical and dictate the use of HDDs that are made specifically for the needs of video system manufacturers and integrators,” commented Carla Kennedy, senior vice president of Seagate’s Enterprise Product Line Management group. “With its optimized performance and capacity that can store over one full month of high-resolution video, the Seagate SV35.5 series hard drive is a prime example of Seagate delivering a feature-rich solution that customers have requested.”
“While we continue to use the Barracuda ES series for our enterprise class RAID solutions, the Seagate SV35 series is a perfect solution for our very successful series of non-RAID DVRs,” mentioned Pelco Product Marketing Manager Yvonne Schwemmer. “The fact that Seagate has engineered these drives for the video surveillance market gives us increased confidence in the products we deliver to a demanding marketplace.”
Enabled for flexible DVR design capabilities, the hard drive supports disk capacities in the range of 250GB to 1TB. Fabricated to function as a video surveillance DVR, network DVR or even for direct and network-attached JBOD surveillance storage, the hard drive is also an enhanced solution for system builders. Equipped with the perpendicular recording technology, the SV35.5 drive allows OEM and system builders to work at lowered costs while also consuming less power.
Sporting spin speeds of 7200 RPM, the hard drive supports the 3GBps SATA interface. Delivering a video streaming ability of 47 simultaneous full D1 video stream support, the hard drive also has the ability to withstand shocks both in the operating and non-operating mode.
Backed by a limited 5-year warranty, the SV35.5 hard drive is available in three options- 250GB, 500GB and 1TB. Though there’s no word on the price yet, the hard drive is known to be shipping to distributors worldwide.
