As expected, the Samsung Gear S2 has been made official by the company as its first ever smartwatch with a circular display. Staying true to its predecessor’s offerings, it delivers voice calling and 3G support independently; meaning there’s no need for a smartphone to be connected at all times.
The new Samsung Gear S2 is distinguished by its rotating dial as well. You’ll be able to use it in order to navigate the interface of this Tizen-based device. It exists in the form of three variants, as revealed by the company through a press release.
The main Gear S2 will ship with a dark gray body and a black silicon band or a silver body and a white silicon band. Its second variant is a classic model which will feature a black body and a matching leather band. The former is slightly larger and heavier than the latter.
And then there’s the 3G version which will come with an e-SIM that just needs activation in order to get going. Instead of the 250mAh battery that has been granted to the two above mentioned devices by Samsung, the 3G model gets a 300mAh unit.
Here’s a neat look at the main specs of the new Samsung Gear S2:
– Display: 1.2-inch, 360 x 360 pixels
– OS: Tizen
– Processor: 1GHz dual core
– Memory: 512MB RAM, 4GB storage
– Battery: 250mAh/300mAh
– Sensors: accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate, ambient light, barometer
Common specs of all the three include a 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED display with 360 x 360 pixel resolution and a 1GHz dual core processor. NFC support is there as well, apart from a heart rate monitor and other important sensors. These smartwatches are IP68 certified for dust and water resistance.
Details regarding the pricing and availability of the Samsung Gear S2 range are expected to be revealed on September 3 at the IFA in Berlin.
