Samsung is busy at work creating a Mi Band competitor

The Xiaomi Mi Band has experienced tremendous success in all the markets that it has been launched in till date, and this could have prompted Samsung to come up with a similar product. Information about a device with the model number SM-R150 has come to the fore, and it’s believed to be an entry-level activity tracker.

The main reason why the Xiaomi Mi Band has earned such a big name for itself is the fact that it’s available at an extremely cheap price. It costs $13, while a new variant which comes with a heart rate monitor can be purchased at $16. Samsung will hence need to keep the price of its device down as well, in order to better compete with Chinese gadget.

According to SamMobile, SM-R150 is being referred to internally by the company as the Triathlon. The website points out that since its model number is lower than that of the Gear Fit (SM-R350), there are less chances of it adopting a heart rate monitor.

It can also be speculated that the product will be compatible with all Android devices rather than just those made by Samsung. Moreover, the South Korean giant could even expand its compatibility to iPhones.

The SM-R150 may very well kick in the same feature set that’s on offer through the Xiaomi Mi Band. That means it may come with support for tracking your steps as well as your sleep patterns. Additionally, it could even feature a trait that would allow it to give vibration feedback when notifications arrive on your devices.
