Samsung’s finally brought the Gear S3 to India, several months after debuting the series at the IFA back in August last year. It’s launched both the Classic and Frontier versions of the smartwatch in the country.

The Gear S3 lineup is set to hit Samsung stores on January 18. The wearables carry the same Rs 28500 price tag, catapulting them into the category of premium smartwatches. The Classic edition is aimed at those looking for an elegant option, while the Frontier one is for those seeking a rugged alternative.

Samsung’s backing up the latter’s durability claims by blessing it with a MIL-STD-810G rating. Both models have further been furnished with Gorilla Glass SR+ for another layer of toughness and IP68 certification for protection against dust and water.

The Tizen-based Gear S3 offers a number of significant improvements over its previous variant. For instance, it’s a lot bigger thanks to its 1.3-inch screen and 46mm case. The smartwatch now features Always On Display technology so that users can easily see the time at a glance.

Owners can also just turn the bezel to answer a call, scrolls through apps, and switch off an alarm. The Samsung device comes with built-in GPS and support for a cellular radio chip to enable 4G connectivity, though only the Frontier version has been equipped with the latter. The two together allows the wearable to function independently of a connected iOS or Android smartphone.

A neat summary of the Samsung Gear S3’s specifications:
