The Samsung Gear S2 and Gear VR have finally arrived in India, a few months after the devices made their debut at IFA Berlin last year. Both are being sold online exclusively via Flipkart and offline through the South Korean brand’s retail outlets.
There are two variants of the Samsung Gear S2 up for grabs, one a silicon band version priced at Rs 24300 and the other a Classic leather model for Rs 25800. The company has also announced that it will provide special Indian-themed dial faces for users to choose from. The device is the first smartwatch by the manufacturer to sport a circular design.
Potential buyers of the Gear S2 can opt to use the new rotating bezel to scroll through the display or utilize the touchscreen. Diving into its specs, the gadget runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS and is compatible with Android phones having a minimum of 1.5GB of RAM. The brand had earlier announced it would offer support for iOS devices in the future.
A quick look at the main specifications of the Samsung Gear S2:
– OS: Tizen
– Display: 1.2-inch super AMOLED, 360 x 360 pixels
– Battery: 250mAh
– Processor: 1GHz Exynos 3250 dual core
– Storage: 4GB
– RAM: 512MB
– Sensors: accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate, ambient light, barometer
Samsung claims the smartwatch can store up to 300 songs. It’s also been fortified with IP68 certification, which means it can resist water and dust. The device’s 250mAh battery can be powered up via a wireless dock and is supposed to last for 2 to 3 days on a single charge. Connectivity options consist of Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi.
Moving on to the Gear VR, the headset can be bought in exchange of Rs 8200 and is powered by Oculus technology. The product is only compatible with the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Note 5 Dual Sim. It packs a 96-degree field of view and is apparently 22% lighter than its predecessor.
Once again, the Samsung Gear S2 and Gear VR are up for sale via retail stores and Flipkart.
