If Samsung Gear S is a Tizen-based smartwatch, what’s the Gear Circle?

Plodding on with its momentum-less push to establish the Tizen ecosystem in the mainstream OS race, Samsung has launched a Gear S smartwatch powered by the said OS. Aside from that, the company has also gone on to announce a Bluetooth headset named Gear Circle which features a magnetic lock mechanism to easily fit around your head when in use.

One of the highlighted properties of the Samsung Gear S smartwatch is its support for 3G cellular networks. Another important aspect is its 2-inch Super AMOLED display which is curved, by the way. This Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capable device will be able to provide you with notifications from your social networks, calendars and apps even when you’re away from your phone.

You can reply to messages using an onscreen keyboard and make or receive calls directly from your wrists. This smartwatch grabs an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, while it even features a hear rate monitor among its offerings. It’s kept going by a 300mAh Li-ion battery.

A look at the specs of the Samsung Gear S:

– Display: 2-inch curved Super AMOLED, 360 x 480 pixels
– OS: Tizen platform
– Processor: 1GHz dual core
– Memory: 4GB storage, 512MB RAM
– Battery: 300mAh
– Sensors: Accelerometer, gyro, compass, heart rate, ambient light, UV, barometer

Coming to the Samsung Gear Circle, it’s a simple set of Bluetooth earbuds which you can use to receive calls, listen to music or issue voice commands. This product even comes with a vibrate function for signaling incoming calls and notifications.

The Samsung Gear S will begin its rollout through usual retail channels as well as carriers this October. The Gear Circle will be released around the same time, but pricing for both is still under the shroud.
