A Samsung Galaxy S5 is most definitely in the works as certainly as an iPhone 6 is in the pipeline. Because the Galaxy flagship is to Android fans what the iPhone is to iOS enthusiasts. If you didn’t buy the Samsung Galaxy S4 with the feeling that it wasn’t a big enough upgrade from the S3, here’s all you need to know about the upcoming smartphone in question.
Samsung Galaxy S5 release date:
Keep your eyes peeled for announcements close to the MWC 2014 kick-off. Rumor was that Samsung intended to unveil the handset a day before the event unfolds, that’s on February 23. The word came from Russian blogger, Eldar Murtazin.
We were supposed to believe the news based on the fact that Murtazin got the release date of the outgoing flagship right last year. But as the official Unpacked 2014 invite has now revealed, we can now look out for it on February 24 when it will be exhibited along with Tizen phones.
With regards to the actual market launch, the S5 is not expected to hit availability status until mid- to late-April though. This is what SamMobile seems to feel, at least. Sounds a bit tardy on Samsung’s part.
Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors so far:
If you look at the Unpacked 5 invitation that’s being teased by the company, ‘5’ appears an excessive number of times on it. Will the S be dropped from the name? How does a Samsung Galaxy 5 cell phone sound to you? Well, that’s our contribution to speculations. Take a look at what’s in store for you –
Two different versions incoming:
We’ve been talking about one handset all along. But most recently, a most interesting story broke cover. It has led to suspicions that Samsung will steal a leaf from Apple and its iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. New benchmarks dug up via Unwired View are suggesting two models of the S5 are due to arrive.
Take it with a pinch of salt, but if it’s true, the brand just lost our respect. As if there weren’t enough accusations and lawsuits about its copycat nature flying around. We’d rather it’s a Samsung Galaxy S6 as well as an S5 incoming instead of a new flagship and a lower end device riding on its coattails.
Samsung Galaxy S5 features and specs:
The specifications mentioned below point to the two reported models of the smartphone. The gossip around town is that Samsung will mark the differences between the two by covering one in metal and the other in plastic.
SM-G900H for Europe:
– Exynos 5422 octa core processor
– Mali T628 GPU
– 5.2-inch 1080p touchscreen
– 2GB of RAM
– 16GB internal memory
– 16MP main camera
The SM-G900H could possibly be the one carrying the plastic rear casing. But given the company’s new-found love for faux leather backs, maybe plastic will be ditched altogether.
SM-G900R4 for US Cellular:
– 2.5GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 chip
– Adreno 330 graphics
– 5.2-inch 2K 2560 x 1440p display
– 3GB of RAM
– 32GB onboard storage
– 16MP rear camera

Both are said to run on Android KitKat 4.4.2. They may also surface the reworked TouchWiz UI outed by @evleaks late last month. As GSMArena found out through NowhereElse.fr recently, the Tizen handsets may share the same interface too.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is speculated to be pegged at the same price as its predecessor. If you want to go by this, then it’ll cost upwards of $600 off-contract. Let’s see.
