History repeats itself – Samsung and HTC have gold versions of their flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S5 and One M8, respectively. Just so that we’re all on the right track here, we’re not talking about the color gold that has been high in demand, but real 24-carat gold plated form factors that cost a bomb.
And guess what? T-Mobile’s John Legere is the lucky person to get his hands on both devices. The carrier’s CEO has taken to twitter to tease the premium smartphones. Samsung and HTC are yet to announce their intentions of offering their flagships in 24-carat gold, but we knew this was eventually coming especially from the Taiwanese OEM. The original HTC One smartphone was also given the same treatment last year.

The above image shows the gold HTC One M8 in high detail, albeit the premium Galaxy S5 hasn’t been given the same treatment with the image appearing blurry and overexposed. It was just yesterday that both flagship phones made their debut on T-Mobile. The One M8 is quite similar to its predecessor in appearance, but has various high-end components on the inside. The same can be said about the Galaxy S5.

Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 801 processor and have 2GB of RAM as well as 1080p displays. The HTC One M8 comes with dual rear cameras where one is the UltraPixel lens and the other is a depth sensor. The device also carries BoomSound stereo speakers and an all-metal design. The Galaxy S5 on the other hand, has a 16MP ISOCELL lens and a polycarbonate form factor with a water-resistant design.
There’s no word on whether the HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5 gold models will go on sale in the US.
