Samsung Galaxy A8 Star with dual cameras, Infinity Display hits India

Samsung Galaxy A8 Star

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy A8 Star in India. The phone looks remarkably similar to the brand’s flagship S8/S9 thanks to its huge 6.3-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display, a key highlight.

Having an Infinity Display means narrower bezels all around, so more usable screen space. It also means a more premium price tag. Samsung is asking folks to pay Rs 34990 for the smartphone, pitting it against the likes of the Rs 34999 OnePlus 6. Even the Xiaomi Poco F1 puts up a solid challenge with its Snapdragon 845 processor and Rs 20999 starting cost.

The Galaxy A8 Star originally came out in China back in June 2018 and is pretty much unchanged in its Indian avatar. The company is touting the phone’s Dual Rear IntelliCam system at the back, composed of a 16MP f/1.7 and 24MP f/1.7 lens. The combination is supposed to help take better photos day or night by self-adjusting itself according to the light situation.

On the flip side, the 24MP selfie snapper comes with Smart Beauty, Pro Lighting, and AR Sticker features. Samsung’s also provided for a Face Unlock tool to unlock the handset. If that’s not to your liking, there’s a fingerprint scanner at the rear. The brand has further included its Secure Folder app to keep documents, apps, and media private.

Amazon India will start selling the Galaxy A8 Star on August 27. There’s only one offer listed at the moment, an Easy EMI scheme. If you’re in the market for a premium Samsung phone, there’s also the Rs 67900 Galaxy Note 9 to consider. The company is bundling it with a number of deals at the moment, so you might be able to grab it at a cheaper rate.
