We’ve heard rumors about the price of Samsung’s foldable phone before, with most predicting that it’ll hit the $2000 mark. Here to add a somewhat official stamp on that figure is a new article which claims to have insider knowledge of the handset’s going rate.

A Samsung employee told Gizmodo UK that the so-called Galaxy Flex will cost somewhere in the region of £1500 and £2000. This translates to approx $1912 – $2550 or Rs 135378 – Rs 180505. That’s an insane amount of money for a phone, so the device will have to be extraordinary for people to buy it.

Samsung Foldable Phone Production

While it definitely looks interesting based on what Samsung has revealed on stage, it doesn’t seem like something folks would pay a small fortune for. The brand seems to be aware of this, which is why it’s only planning to make 1 million units of the smartphone.

At £2000, Samsung could easily make about one and a half billion pounds even with a limited run of 1 million units. If it goes well, the company can make more and mint money. If it goes badly, the brand will have to come up some new technology to dazzle consumers with.

Samsung has officially confirmed that the flexible device is coming in the first half of 2019 in select markets. The UK is definitely going to be one of them, as well as the US and South Korea. As per the report, the firm will sell it unlocked from its own website and both locked and unlocked with EE.

In terms of specs, the Galaxy Flex is set to sport a 7.3-inch screen when unfolded and a 4.58-inch one when folded. It looks like a tablet in the former and a flip phone in the latter. Thickness could be an issue, but we’ll have to wait and see how the final version looks before passing judgment on it.
