Samsung and Sony to Establish Additional 8th Generation Line at S-LCD

Samsung, Sony Logos Samsung and Sony have signed a contract to develop an additional 8th generation amorphous TFT-LCD manufacturing line (“8-2 line”) at their joint venture, S-LCD Corporation (“S-LCD”).

S-LCD was established in April 2004 for starting 7th generation line operation. The result came out in April 2005 with successful 7th generation line operation, while its first 8th generation was established in August 2007.

As per the announcement, the 8-2 line is to be built in the Tangjeong Complex and the production is expected to start by Q2 of 2009. Further, output of 60,000 sheets per month (substrate glass input basis) is expected initially.

The size of substrate glass from this line will measure 2,200 x 2,500mm. With the addition of 8-2 line with 8th and 7th generation lines in Tangjeong, S-LCD is expected to be capable enough to meet large screen LCD panels demand from Sony and Samsung.
