The Motorola Defy XT is now available for pre-order through Republic Wireless and according to the carrier, subscriptions are open to everyone wanting to take a bite out of the Hybrid Calling technology. What’s more, the providers has promised a 30-day ‘money back guarantee’ for all those who wish to discontinue their service within a month’s time, sans any risk.
The Wi-Fi-centric network was launched back in 2011 and the beta preview was reopened towards the end of June. Back then, the carrier announced that the $19 unlimited plan was available with the device in question. In addition to this smartphone, the provider was also offering the LG Optimus. However, a decision was made to phase out the device to focus on the future, which is the Defy XT. The retail cost for the phone during the beta period was $100 less for existing members willing to upgrade.
This member of the Defy series comes with dual-band connectivity in order to enable Hybrid Calling. The carrier basically allows users to make low-cost voice calls over Wi-Fi. And when a WLAN connection isn’t available, the phone will operate on Sprint’s nationwide network. The smartphone houses a 3.7-inch Corning Gorilla Glass display and it is built with a durable form factor proffering a dust-, water- and scratch-resistant design. Users will have access to the Google Play store to download apps and they will be able to snap up images as well as record videos through the front-facing VGA webcam or the 5MP rear-facing camera.
The dual-band Motorola Defy XT can be pre-ordered for a price of $249. A $10 start-up fee which includes shipping and handling is applicable along with additional taxes and the $19 monthly membership charge will be carried out once the phone has shipped. The device’s release date is scheduled for sometime mid-December.
