Qualcomm expands its Snapdragon platform with the inclusion of new QSD8650A chipset with 45nm process technology. This new technology ensures faster processing and improved battery life along with several other enhancements. This enables advanced performance of the Snapdragon-powered smartphones and smartbooks.

The new Snapdragon QSD8650A chipset will be sampled before the end of this year. It bundles up 1.3 GHz processor and better multimedia and 2D/3D graphics. The 45nm technology helps with lower power consumption. It consumes about 30 percent less dynamic power compared to other Snapdragon products.

“This latest addition to the growing family of Snapdragon chipsets will help our customers to develop faster, more power-efficient smartphones and smartbooks,” said Luis Pineda, senior vice president of marketing and product management at Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. “This new 45 nm device shows our continued commitment to extending the capabilities of the Snapdragon platform with leading-edge process technology and an expanded list of integrated features.”

Apart from faster processor and bus speed, the QSD8650A chipset bundles up multi-mode UMTS and CDMA 3G mobile broadband connectivity in a 15x15mm package. A power packed multimedia experience is assured by its power-efficient 2D graphics accelerator and enhanced 3D graphics.

Along with integrated GPS, high-definition video recording and playback and Bluetooth 2.1 technology, it also supports Wi-Fi, high-resolution WXGA displays and mobile TV technologies.

About 15 manufacturers are now developing more than 30 products based on Snapdragon platform. Out of which, the Toshiba TG01 smartphone was released in February.
