Purported Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 specs emerge

Samsung Galaxy

Rumor has it that the specifications of two new Samsung devices, the Mega 5.8 and 6.3, have been leaked. And as the monikers would suggest, they hint at the possibility of closing the gap between handsets that are easy to hold, and those dreadfully tiny tablets which fall in the now-almost-defunct phablet category.

Let’s get right into the details then. The 5.8, as anyone might guess, is pegged to come with a 5.8-inch TFT screen which can have images and video displayed at a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. It is said the phone will run on either version 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 of Jelly Bean with the manufacturer’s Nature UX playing a supporting role.

There will be an 8MP camera on the back, while a 2MP webcam (fast-becoming the standard) consolidates the front panel. Nothing is known in the way of photographic capabilities, although the expected wireless options of Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 80211 a/b/g/n and A-GPS have been padded in for connectivity purposes.

The device, it is thought, will draw power from a 2,600mAh battery while utilizing a 1.4GHz dual core processor, with 1.5GB of RAM present as well. Even dimensions have been given a mention (164mm × 83.8mm × 9.7mm), but the only negative aspects can be seen as the screen resolution and the fact that the CPU employs just two cores.

Coming to the 6.3, it shares a lot with the above handset, including camera and wireless options, as well as the choice of OS and the amount of RAM built-in. It will differ, however, in the chipset and battery capacity, making use of a speedier 1.7GHz dual core processor and a slightly more powerful 3,200mAh unit. In addition, it will be thinner, measuring 167.6 × 88 × 7.9 millimeters in dimensions.

As it stands, the specs of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 have not been at the end of a proper reveal. Given the company’s track record with devices, it is not unimaginable to think of such handsets, although official confirmation would go a good step to put our minds at ease. The former has been allegedly given the model number GT-I9152, while the latter is to come in two variants. GT-I9200 should denote the 3G version and GT-I9205, the LTE model.
