Panasonic has made its entry with the P51 in India, offering buyers a smartphone that tags along the latest goodies Android has to offer at a reasonable price. The launch marks the company’s first foray into the handset segment in the country and it intends on acquiring 8% market share through the latest offering.
Well, the manufacturer is in for a tough fight as the Panasonic P51 will be up against many competitors, both local and global, that have been around for quite some time now. We’ve seen numerous smartphones being launch over the past weeks that pack in alluring specifications and sub-Rs. 15K retail amounts. Additionally, 2012 flagships and other high-end devices from international companies have also gone on sale below the Rs. 30K range. They include the Rs. 27,445 Oppo Find 5, the Rs. 27,500 Galaxy S3 and the Rs. 25.999 priced Nexus 4 amongst others.
The smartphone in question comes with a 5-inch wide 720p HD IPS touchscreen through which, the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform is accessible. The processing load is carried by a 1.2GHz quad core CPU. The maker and model of the AP haven’t been disclosed. By the looks of it, the SOC is most likely based on the Cortex A7 architecture or probably even A9 cores would be efficient. An entire gigabyte of RAM is what users will receive along with 4GB of internal storage. The overall memory can be expanded with up to 32GB more through a microSD card.
Equipped with dual SIM slots, the device is compatible with 2G and 3G networks. It measures 8.5mm thick, which is a plus point, and shows off an 8MP camera with auto focus as well as LED flash on the rear for video recording and capturing images. A 1.3MP 720p HD lens is placed on the front to commence online face-to-face calling.
The Panasonic P51 has been launched in India for a price of Rs. 26,990. However, it is yet to be made available for purchase. The handset comes with a magnetic flip cover and a capacitive stylus.
