Oppo has begun sending out media invites for a ‘camera phone’ launch event in India on April 5. All signs point to the arrival of the R9 and R9 Plus in the country, given the invite includes the words ‘Selfie Expert.’
The Oppo R9 and R9 Plus have primarily been marketed as selfie-focused smartphones ever since its launch in China a few weeks ago. Both carry a 16MP front-facing camera equipped with an aperture of f/2.0 and a 78.1-degree wide-angle lens. The two have proven to be a hit for the company in its home base, selling over 180000 units on its first day of sales.
It should be noted that the invite doesn’t specially mention whether both the Oppo smartphones will be making an appearance at the event. The brand’s local Twitter handle doesn’t offer any clues either. Promos so far have focused on its design and fingerprint scanner which can apparently unlock the phone within 0.2 seconds.

Both the R9 and R9 Plus come with support for VOOC flash charge which is able to supply 2 hours of talk time after just 5 minutes of charging. There are several differences between the two handsets in terms of specs. The most noticeable one is size, with the former going for a 5.5-inch AMOLED full HD screen and the latter opting for a huge 6-inch one.
