Oppo didn’t debut any new phones at the MWC 2016, choosing to show off its Super VOOC fast charging and sensor-based image stabilizer technology instead. This is all set to change now with the arrival of new teasers and a number of ads for what seems to be the R9.
One teaser image for the Oppo R9 which was posted by the company via its Weibo account simply depicts the number 9 with the text revealing that the handset is going to be a camera-centric phone with a powerful snapper. The other ad can be seen all over China’s bus stations and subways. It states there will be an event on March 17 for a device which has 9 in its name.
This clearly points towards the R9. As per GizmoChina, the new smartphone is set to break Oppo’s tradition of selling mid-range phones within its R series of handsets. It could be equipped with a number of high-end specs such as 3 or 4GB of RAM, a 6-inch QHD screen, 64GB of internal room, a Snapdragon 820 processor, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and a 3700mAh battery.

It may be a safe bet to assume Oppo’s brand new Super VOOC fast charging tech will be making an appearance in the device. The feature supposedly allows a 2500mAh battery to go from 0 to 100% within 15 minutes and can charge to 45% within 5 minutes. Another likely assumption is its SmartSensor Image Stabilization tool which is apparently faster than regular OIS.
The inclusion of the second makes sense for a camera-centric phone. According to GSM Arena, the Oppo R9 might additionally carry a 21MP shooter on its back and a 13MP lens on its front surface to complete the package.
