OnePlus unveils new referral program ahead of OnePlus 5 launch

OnePlus started out as a small-scale startup which eventually grew to become a globe-spanning entity fueled by word-of-mouth sales and clever marketing campaigns. The company is now combining both strategies into a referral program meant for past, present and future customers.

OnePlus’ referral program applies to anyone who has ever bought a OnePlus device, whether it be the OnePlus One, OnePlus 2, OnePlus X, OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, or the upcoming OnePlus 5. All they have to do is head to the company’s referral page, generate their unique referral link, and share it with their friends.

If a friend buys a OnePlus smartphone using that link, they’ll get a $20 (roughly Rs 1290) discount on any accessory. Non-US residents will get an equivalent amount in their own currency. As for the owner, they’ll get 100 referral points in their referral hub within 30 days of the purchase.

OnePlus plans to constantly update the referral hub with new entries which could range from something like an accessory or a price cut on a new handset. The latter part is interesting since the next phone on the company’s docket is the OnePlus 5.

So far, OnePlus has confirmed that its forthcoming flagship will run on a Snapdragon 835 processor and feature improved touch latency for a seamless user experience. The second is a major bone of contention for its previous smartphones, with several people complaining about touch latency issues.

OnePlus also plans to enhance the overall smoothness in the OnePlus 5 by adding a new feature to OxygenOS which better manages the way apps perform. Under the new regime, frequently used apps will be instantly accessible the moment the handset is switched on, while rarely used ones will be deprioritized and held back from affecting performance.
