The OnePlus 5T has come and gone, and now it’s time for rumor mills to start speculating on the OnePlus 6. The upcoming handset might be out sooner than you’d think, as per a new report.
While OnePlus has established a June/November timeline for its 2 launch events in a year, GizmoChina claims the OnePlus 6 could break this pattern by launching in March 2018. A source told the publication that it would make its debut in March and hit availability by the end of the month.
If true, the OnePlus 6 would be arriving on the scene a mere 4 months after its predecessor. The report goes on to assert that the smartphone will run on Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 processor and feature an under-glass fingerprint scanner.
OnePlus had to employ a rear-facing fingerprint reader on the OnePlus 5T since there’s no room for the module up front. Many manufacturers are trying to perfect below-glass fingerprint scanning tech at the moment, with Vivo set to showcase its prowess in partnership with Synaptics at CES 2018 next month.
Vivo, Oppo, and OnePlus are all owned by the same company, with the latter two frequently releasing phones that look remarkably similar to one another. The last may just follow in the footsteps of its sister brand, but that can only be speculated about right now without any hard evidence.
A separate report by Android Marvel states that OnePlus is going to introduce advanced facial recognition tech to the OnePlus 6. The hardware powering it is apparently similar to the iPhone X complete with an infrared 3D sensor. The company isn’t copying the notch though, so you can rest easy on that front.
