The OnePlus 5 has officially gotten launched in India and is all set to hit Amazon in an Early Access Sale starting from 4:30 pm today. The handset’s open sale will kick off from June 27 at midnight. Pop-up stores are going to be held in New Delhi on June 23, Bengaluru on June 24, Chennai on June 24, and Hyderabad on June 25.
As expected, the OnePlus 5 is going to be an expensive proposition in India. It starts at Rs 32999 for its 6GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM Slate Gray variant and goes up to Rs 37999 for its 8GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM Midnight Black model. The figures mark a change in strategy for a brand which has always been known for providing flagship-worthy specs at affordable rates.
Now it looks like OnePlus is directly trying to put itself in the same premium category as major players like Apple and Samsung, though the OnePlus 5 is not quite as expensive as the duo’s flagships. There’s no denying the smartphone’s similarity to the iPhone 7 Plus, right from the curved antenna bands to the 16MP + 20MP dual cameras placed at the corner.
Comparisons are inevitable, especially since the OnePlus 5 has a Portrait Mode of its own which also blurs out the background and keeps the main subject in focus. Performance could be a major differentiator for the handset given its power-packed combination of 8GB of RAM, UFS 2.1 two lane storage, and a Snapdragon 835 processor.
