OnePlus 3 production may be halted to make way for Snapdragon 821-running variant

OnePlus is reportedly planning to launch a brand new variant of the OnePlus 3 which will feature a few tweaks here and there. The brand had previously stated that it was going to focus on only one smartphone this year, though this new information may modify that mission slightly.

According to GizmoChina, OnePlus has been facing a massive shortage in stock for the OnePlus 3. It’s apparently not been able to keep up with demand for the handset, with some claiming delivery times of more than 5 weeks. A supply chain source claims the brand’s solution for this dilemma is to stop production of the current model for a newer one dubbed the OnePlus 3S or OnePlus 3 Plus.

The so-called OnePlus 3S will supposedly be enhanced with the faster Snapdragon 821 processor in place of the existing Snapdragon 820 one. Furthermore, it may also swap its AMOLED screen for an LCD display. The former is rumored to be one of the main reasons for the backlog since it is in short supply.

If the speculation does turn out to be accurate, then the new OnePlus 3S might neatly resolve the manufacturer’s demand problem. The company notably hinted that something was indeed in development courtesy a tweet sent out by its official India handle.

The post asked people to guess what OnePlus is up to and gave them the option of choosing between a new smartphone color variant, product unveiling, shopping experience, and software experience. We’ll keep you updated the moment the brand decides to reveal more details in the coming days.
