The OnePlus 2 has finally been launched, putting an end to all those wild rumors about the smartphone coming with a holographic projector, a butler, an autopilot app for your car, a rocket launcher and so on. Now that the specs of the self-styled ‘2016 flagship killer’ have finally been revealed, you don’t need to listen to speculations anymore.
The company hosted a virtual reality (VR) unveiling for the OnePlus 2, having given away a shipment of VR glasses to interested folks a few weeks back. So whoever wanted to watch it live, simply had to download the related app from Google Play, install it on their phone, pop the device into the aforesaid cardboard head-mount and enjoy the show on July 27.
The handset will arrive in two variants of 64GB and 16GB priced at $389 and $329, respectively. In India, they cost Rs 24999 and Rs 22999, in that order. If you have an invite or manage to cadge one by August 11, you will be able to place an order for a 64GB unit. The 16GB capacity OnePlus 2 won’t be out until later this year. It can be grabbed in Sandstone Black.
OnePlus will also be providing options of Bamboo, Black Apricot, Rosewood and Kevlar covers for the smartphone. With regards to specifications that stand out, the phone lands with the promised USB Type-C ‘port of the future’ as well as a fingerprint sensor. It is the first ever device to be powered by the company’s OxygenOS based on Android Lollipop 5.1.
If you remember, the development process of the OS was quickened after its ugly spat with Cyanogen over its exclusive deal with Micromax. The software tries to stay as close to the stock Google OS as possible while lending some useful features such as the ability to flip between hardware and capacitive buttons, on-screen gestures, dark mode and much more.
