It was way back in November of last year that we got the first glimpse of Office Mobile for Android and iOS. And while the application has already gone official for the latter last month, Microsoft has now brought it over to Google’s mobile platform. As you might know, there’s no scarcity of productive apps on this OS and we’ve also highlighted various alternatives, but existing 365 subscribers will be able to benefit from the tool as it’s available for free.
Office Mobile for Android will need a Home Premium or 365 ProPlus subscription. Additionally, potential customers can sign up for a 30-day trial through the company’s website before making a payment. The application comes with the ability to edit and create Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. Also, it supports charts, animations, SmartArt Graphics, and shapes. Modifications carried out to a document will remain intact and look the same when viewed on a PC or Mac. Office Mobile for Android is designed for on-the-go users as it allows them to convenient access files through SkyDrive.
Office Mobile for Android is designed for smartphones and the UI has been optimized for small displays. With the Resume Reading feature, users will be able to carry on reading Word documents on a PC from the exact same spot they stopped at on a mobile. And for PowerPoint presentations, there’s a new Slide Navigator which allows users to quickly browser through slides, while Speaker Notes helps them practice.
The Office Mobile for Android application is available for download through the Google Play store. For reminder’s sake, the app is free, but requires a valid 365 subscription to function. Also, it’s currently limited to those residing in the US and the company asserts that various other countries will be included on the list over the next several weeks.
