Obi Hornbill S551 have attractive specs, could use a better name

Obi Hornbill S551 isn’t the most attractive name for an Android smartphone, but we’ve seen worse. The handset in question has been put up for grabs in India in the usual fashion where an online seller makes the phone available before the company acknowledges its existence.

The Obi Hornbill S551 can be seen selling for Rs 9230 on e-commerce website HomeShop18. The said amount is quite nice considering that you get a mid-range phablet of 5.5 inches. Also, the phone is decently designed with the rear panel flaunting a dimpled texture which looks quite similar to what the Galaxy S5 dons.

The hardware used here is pretty good as well. The large display proffers 720p HD visuals with Android 4.4 KitKat hosting the show. There’s a 5MP camera on the front for taking selfies and a 13MP Sony sensor on the rear with LED flash. Moving onto the innards, the phone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad core MediaTek MT6582 SOC and offers 1GB of RAM with 8GB of storage.

It’ll also accept a microSD card of up to 32GB. What’s disappointing here is that there’s a 2200mAh battery onboard which isn’t likely to offer good activity time owing to the large display. Obi Mobiles estimates that the handset can deliver around 9 hours of talk time or 200 hours of standby.
