Nokia Lumia 920 to be launched in India soon?

Lumia 920

Is the Nokia Lumia 920 getting a launch in India? That’s a question many have been asking ever since the phone was first revealed in September this year. It was scheduled to touch down in the US via AT&T in November; and it did, although this was a little later than expected.

Then we found out that it was also headed to other nations including Australia, Germany, Russia and Italy. In fact, so comfortable was it in the US, that it even wriggled its way onto the receiving end of a sizable Black Friday price cut. But nowhere was an announcement of a launch for the Windows Phone 8 device in the Indian subcontinent.

Now Nokia India has put up a cheeky post on its official Facebook page, hinting that the device could see a launch in the country ‘pretty soon.’ Posted at around 0920 hours this morning, it cavalierly refers to the weather and says that there’s ‘something special’ coming our way, asking readers whether they feel a certain kind of excitement in the air.

Nokia India Facebook Post

The image we’ve attached above shows the company’s post on the social networking web site. Whether or not this carries any weight, only time will tell. And keeping things in perspective, the fact that Vodafone recently announced that it would bring the device to UK customers in early 2013 should be committed to memory.

We can’t wait to see what the company has in store for the Nokia Lumia 920 in India. But as it stands, there has been no official announcement, and this piece of information should be cast squarely in the rumor pile.

Update 1: We’ve received official word from the Nokia India PR reps. The Lumia 920 will be launched tomorrow, December 23, 2012 in Mumbai.

Update 2: There seems to have been a PR mix-up. We’re yet to see the phone get an exact release date for the country. But the Lumia 920 and the 820 will be out in the 1st week of January next year, while the 620 will come in the 4th week, according to the Nokia folks we just contacted. Apologies for the inconvenience.
