Nokia Lumia 510 release date pegged for next month, caters to the budget-minded

Nokia Lumia 510

The release date for the Nokia Lumia 510 is officially slated for this November and based on details provided by the Finnish manufacturer, the device is loaded with a host of features and it caters to the budget-friendly segment. Owing to this, the handset is preloaded with the Windows Phone 7.5 platform since the hardware employed isn’t capable of running the latest OS, just as seen in the previous Lumia family.

The device launched today is the second entry-level handset in the company’s Windows Phone lineup. The hardware employed here is similar to the components fitted within the Lumia 610 smartphone. A Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor takes charge of the heavy lifting and getting things done, while 256MB of RAM delivers smooth multitasking between applications. The company has also thrown in a 5MP AF camera for snapping up stills and recording videos in a 640 x 480p resolution. Visuals are delivered through a 4-inch capacitive 800 x 480p touchscreen.

Users will have 4GB of built-in hoarding capacity and 7GB of free SkyDrive cloud storage. Additionally, they’ll have access to the Camera Extras app which is downloadable through the Marketplace, as well as Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive and Nokia Transport for a rich navigation experience. Connectivity features include Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, WLAN IEEE 802.11 b/g/n and HSPA. On a single charge, the 1300mAh battery employed here can deliver up to 653.2 hours of standby or 8.4 hours of talktime over 3G or 38 hours of music playback.

Nokia estimates that the cost-effective Lumia 510 smartphone should carry a price of $199, excluding taxes and subsidies. The device will be available for purchase in India and China starting next month, followed by other countries in the Asia-Pacific region and South America.
