We recently got a glimpse at what the Nokia 9 could look like, with an insane 5-camera setup making it appear unlike any other smartphone on the market. Another photo of a device with the model number 1094 has now surfaced to back up the previous leak, providing even more evidence that HMD Global has something crazy planned.
The new image has shown up on Chinese site ITHome, with the caption referring to it as the 5-camera Nokia 9. This may or may not be true, since even the Nokia 10 is supposed to get a similar module. The hands-on snapshot looks real enough, but there’s a chance it might be a fake thanks to some clever photoshopping skills.
Nokia 9 Camera Mystery
As far as we can tell, the topmost, middle, and bottom 3 cutouts are cameras. The top-left is probably an LED flash unit, while the top-right one could have something to do with IR blasting. Everyone is in uncharted territory here since no one knows how a penta-lens system works.
Huawei is the current front-runner when it comes to shooters thanks to the P20 Pro’s 3 snappers. It’s possible that Nokia’s take has something to do with zoom and megapixels as high as 41MP, but that’s all just speculation at this point.

As always, Carl Zeiss is handling the photography department. There’s a chance this is HMD Global’s way to bring back the PureView brand. The phone series was known for its extremely high megapixel count. It would be a fitting comeback for the brand’s true flagship handset.
Other than the multiple cameras, the Nokia 9 may have a glass back with sloping sides. Wireless charging could be a feature, as well as an under-display fingerprint sensor. There’s no cutout for a scanner at the back, making the latter more likely. Unless, of course, HMD Global is intending to switch to just face scanning like the iPhone X.
