Nokia 9 Leak

The Nokia 9 is expected to be HMD Global’s big flagship of the year, running on a Snapdragon 845 processor and featuring an under-display fingerprint sensor. One major change which some have predicted is a penta-lens camera setup. There hasn’t been any evidence of this though, until today.

It looks like someone on Baidu posted an image of the back of the Nokia 9 and then promptly deleted it. The photo was later reposted by Slashleaks. The phone looks extremely unique, with a crazy photography system that doesn’t resemble anything available in the market today.

As far as we can tell, there are six holes which almost form a pentagon. The Carl Zeiss branding can be seen below one of them, so we know Nokia’s not breaking with tradition here. It’s difficult to tell what hole does what without any additional information.

PhoneArena thinks the similar-looking bottom-left, bottom-right, and central lenses are the Nokia device’s camera sensors. The top-right cutout could be an LED flash unit. This leaves out the top and bottom modules, but it’s unclear what those are.

Other than the one-of-a-kind photography setup, the image also reveals that the Nokia 9 might have a glass back. This could be a clue towards wireless charging. There notably isn’t a fingerprint scanner at the rear. This may mean that the phone won’t have a fingerprint sensor and use another biometric tech instead or there’s an in-display fingerprint reader planned.

There could also be a home button up front, but this is unlikely since all major flagships have moved towards full-screen designs. Another interesting aspect of the leak is the presence of the Android One logo. This hints that the Nokia 9 will be an international release and not a China-only smartphone.
