Android 9 Pie came out a day ago and it’s already busy making its way to Pixel phones around the world. In a surprising turn of events, it seems the Nokia 7 Plus may have also gotten its hands on the update.

To recall, the Nokia 7 Plus was among the select number of phones to be part of the Android 9 beta program. The software has been in testing on the phone for a while now. Nokiapoweruser now reports that someone from India sent in a screenshot of the new OS running on their unit.

However, the publication’s own TA-1046 variant hasn’t received the update yet, in spite of being on the Android P Beta 3. It’s possible that HMD Global has only rolled out the update to a select few and will beam it out to others after some time has passed.

A previous rumor had indicated that Nokia would release Android P for all its phones, starting with the Nokia 7 Plus, in August itself. This is a big feat, especially in the fragmented Android world where OS updates are either non-existent or slow to arrive.

HMD Global did promise to hand over at least 2 years of OS promotions from the very start of its comeback. Plus, its recent smartphone belong to the Android One program, so quick updates are guaranteed. It’s not the first to roll out Android P though, as Essential took up that honor the day Android Pie made its debut.

The Android 9 update for the Nokia 7 Plus apparently weighs in at a hefty 1173MB, so it would be best to download it over Wi-Fi. HMD Global will probably announce the update officially within a few days. You can check if you’ve gotten it by heading to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for update.
