Nokia 3 to receive Android 7.1.1 Nougat update by August-end

The Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 got launched in a wave of nostalgia earlier this year, promising a return to the Nokia of old combined with the latest Android software. Unfortunately, the first was at somewhat of a disadvantage compared to the others because it ran on the older Android 7.0 Nougat OS and not Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

This state of affairs will soon be at an end. HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas used his Twitter account recently to clarify that the Nokia 3 will be getting upgraded to Android 7.1.1 Nougat by the end of August. It seems people have been asking him whether the most affordable Nokia phone on the market will be brought on par with the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.

They have a good reason to ask as well, since budget phones are usually denied regular updates by many companies who prefer to focus on their higher-end options when it comes to promotions. It’s refreshing to see Nokia won’t be going down this path.

Another common question on a Nokia owner’s mind is whether or not their phone will be getting a taste of Android O. HMD Global issued an official response to this a few months ago, reassuring customers that the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 will be getting upgraded to Google’s next OS.

Sarvikas also went on to respond to a Twitter user who asked him whether the Android 7.1.1 rollout will be global or in specific regions. HMD’s sticking to international availability, promising to release the update the moment it gets all the market specific approvals in place.
