The Nikon Coolpix S01, a new compact camera has been announced, and it packs the company’s imaging technology and style factor into an ultra-mini body, making it conveniently portable and easy to use. The device weighs just 3.4 ounces and sports dimensions of 3.1″ x 2.1″ x 0.7″. The camera maker just recently took the lid off what is the very first Android-driven, Wi-Fi capable camera, the Coolpix S800c.
Branded the smallest Nikon ever, the Coolpix S01 features a 6.2cm LCD touchscreen, 3x optical zoom thanks to a Nikkor lens and the Expeed C2 image-processing engine, while it is capable of recording movies or videos in 720p. Although it comes with a built-in Xenon flash, the in-built battery cannot be removed and users will have to make do with internal memory only, which at about 7.3GB, isn’t less.
As Bo Kajiwara, Vice President of Marketing, Planning and Customer Experience at Nikon puts it, “Incredibly compact, the stylish Coolpix S01 allows owners to always have a Nikon camera on hand while capturing their memorable moments.”
To understand really how tiny the Nikon Coolpix S01 is, the image above should give a fair idea. The versatile point-and-shoot snapper is designed for ‘fun and spontaneous‘ shooting. Its glossy exterior has been constructed and finished to prevent scratches from appearing on the body. Meanwhile extending its fun quotient, the camera is available in individual colors including red, white, silver, pink and black, although the availability of these hues may vary depending on region.
The Nikon Coolpix S01 price and release date details have been revealed. The suggested retail price stands at $179.95 and it will be made available in September this year. Its new GUI is designed to facilitate ease-of-use among beginners, while various effects can also be applied to images.
