We’ve been hearing about a mysterious Nexus 8 which was inadvertently leaked by the company through its official promotional website for Android. The tablet can be spotted in the hands of a young woman featured in the Apps & Entertainment section of the portal.
At first glance, it looks nothing like any Nexus we’ve seen before. Ars Technica reports that a user called Britoid on The Verge Forums has pointed out this device which appears to have a screen measuring around 8 inches (how do you figure that one out?) and throwing up Android 4.4 KitKat.
The bezel is noticeably thinner along the top and bottom as compared to its smaller cousin. Here’s where we say ‘Hold your horses, no need to get too excited.’ The way the display is placed on the front seems a bit off. The weirdness of the angle at which it’s positioned is most prominent at the top right corner and lower left corner of the screen.
From what we can tell, it seems to be a bad Photoshop job. And there’s no winning argument in favor of a Nexus 8 anyway. Say you wanted a smallish tablet, the Nexus 7 with its 7-inch display should do quite well and then the Nexus 10 is your answer to a 10-inch one. There could hardly be any need for something that falls in between.
On the other hand, people have been waiting for a refreshed version of Google’s 10-inch device ever since the 2013 Nexus 7 popped up. But why make an entirely new one which is only slightly larger than the Nexus 7?
What do you think?
