The new Nexus 7 is already available in the US starting at $229 and is scheduled to go on sale in various other countries around the globe including India and the UK. Price details for the last country have already managed to breach the surface and all that’s left to know is a release date which has been rumored for late August and early September. Well, Asus has now cleared up that doubt.
Speaking to Pocket-lint, the Taiwanese company has confirmed that the new Nexus 7 will be launched on August 28. Towards the end of July, various retailers such as Ebuyer, PC World and Currys had started accepting pre-orders for the tablet and the estimated availability date was pegged for September 13. The new Nexus 7 2013 edition is a beefed up version of its predecessor. Instead of a 720p touchscreen, the panel now delivers visuals in full HD. Also the RAM has been increased from 1GB to 2GB.
The company has even dropped off Nvidia as the processor supplier and has sided with the quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro which can be found in the Nexus 4 as well. The Nexus 7 2013 edition not only has a 1.2MP front-facing, but also a 5MP rear snapper. The overall battery life achievable on a single charge is listed as 9 hours.
The report has mentioned that the new Nexus 7 will go on sale in the UK in 16GB and 32GB storage variants for £199.99 and £239.99, respectively. While these prices are for the Wi-Fi only models, there’s still no confirmation if a cellular (4G LTE or HSPA+) version will be launched. The slate will go on sale through the Play store and various high street retailers.
