Motorola confirms Android L update for Moto X, is clearly unhappy with carrier delays

While it was pretty obvious that the Moto X will be receiving an update to the Android L version even before Motorola had spoke about it, an official confirmation does seal the deal for worrying fans. A comment coming from the company’s VP, Punit Soni has done just that.

In response to a query on a Google+ Moto X community page (via Phone Arena) regarding whether or not the next version of the software will be coming to the Moto X, Soni replied with a simple ‘Yup.’ No date was mentioned by him however, leading us to wonder if the update will be hitting the device this year or the next one.

Android L (v5.0) with its brilliant new look that was first showcased at this year’s Google I/O keynote, is supposed to be released around the time of October according to reports. If Motorola’s past record is to be looked at, it has been granting Android updates for its new devices immediately after Google seeds them to its Nexus and Google Play Edition products. Let’s hope same is the case for the Moto X.

However, the one barrier which even Punit Soni doesn’t seem happy about is the delay caused by carriers in launching new updates for their specific handsets. Calling it a ‘sad’ occurrence, he commented that despite this issue, Motorola does ‘try to speed things up.’

A host of cool new features as well as a completely fresh user interface will be added by Android L on the Moto X whenever it’s out. Users can also expect to receive better battery life from their handsets once this software it installed.
