Snapdeal has claimed that it received 1000 bookings for the Moto G in India two hours after launching it for pre-oder. What’s more, the 8GB and 16GB variants of the device now feature Sold Out signs on the website. Motorola is scheduled to announce the availability details of the phone on February 5.
So we’re not talking about a proper launch yet. Until then, fans will have to satisfy themselves with the hint that the Moto G will be out by the third week of February at least. This tidbit goes by the details available through Snapdeal.
Another retailer, Flipkart, has meanwhile hoisted a special Coming Soon landing spot for the handset and attached a Notify Me option for those who’d like to be alerted when the release day dawns. As you’ve obviously noticed by now, information on price is missing as of now.
According to previous reports, the 8GB capacity could cost slightly higher than Rs 15,000, while the 16GB model could go above Rs 17,000. But considering Google’s latest move to rid its hands of Motorola, we’d be a little shaky about buying it. Still, it’s hardly a problem for most people.
Nokia devices do continue to be popular among people in various markets in spite of its sale to Microsoft. But the future of Motorola appears to be a little unpredictable if you’re wondering whether the company will stick to Project Ara or its ‘promised’ $50 smartphone.
Nokia was expected to drop its Normandy Android handset in favor of wearables, though the confusion has cleared up to a certain extent following subsequent leaks. Who’s to say Lenovo won’t craft a different destiny for Motorola and scrap its current product roadmap?
If the Moto G doesn’t find many takers in India despite the initial rush to pre-book it, you can cross your fingers and hope for a very reasonably priced device maybe.
