The Pixel 3 XL has already gotten leaked several times over the past couple of weeks, but there’s been very little chatter about its smaller sibling, the Pixel 3. That ends now, as the latter has gotten leaked via the Pixel subreddit.
The hands-on images and screenshots confirm a number of details about the Pixel 3. The handset looks just like a mini version of the Pixel 2 XL. This may just be what the people want though, what with all the criticism the Pixel 3 XL’s deep notch has received.
Google Pixel 3 Features
There’s no cutout in the photos above, just two thick borders at the bottom and top to house the stereo speakers, microphone, and selfie cameras. It looks like Google is switching to a dual 8MP system up front for “Super Selfies.” One lens has dual f/1.8 and f/2.2 apertures, while the other has an f/1.8 aperture.
Samsung adopted a similar setup in the Galaxy S9, allowing the rear cameras to switch between apertures depending on the lighting situation. As for the Pixel 3’s rear, there’s a single snapper to handle photography duties.
Specs-wise, the Pixel 3 appears to have a 5.5-inch display with a 2:1 aspect ratio and 2160 x 1080p resolution. There seems to be a 2915mAh battery inside, slightly bigger than the 2700mAh unit in the Pixel 2. The back is apparently made out of glass, but with a matte finish to give it a metal-like look.
This is key, since wireless charging only works with glass. Google is finally adding support for the technology this year for both the Pixel variants. Android 9.0 Pie is probably running the show here, complete with gesture navigations. The home screen likely has a third-party launcher, hence the 7 apps laid out at the bottom.
The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are due to come out on October 9.
