Talk about the Nokia 9 is heating up in the days before its expected launch on December 5. The latest tidbit comes via a tipster who got hold of some dummy photos of the handset made by a case maker.
He sent them along to Nokiapoweruser, with the site noting that the dummy Nokia 9 looks exactly like the device described by one of its trusted sources. We’re not sure who to trust here, but leaks by and large claim that the smartphone won’t have a notch and will have 5 cameras at the back.
Nokia 9: Notch or No Notch?
There was a leak recently which featured the Nokia 9 with a notch, but that was probably inaccurate going by this fresh evidence. The image above depicts what Zeiss calls a “Miniature zoom camera,” with multiple lenses and an LED flash unit placed within a circle. As the name suggests, it will likely guarantee enhanced zoom photos, among other tricks.
As per Zeiss’ patent, the multiple lenses in the zoom camera can rotate and adjust the focal path of a fixed primary lens and detector. This way, the handset can provide a longer zoom range without losing out on image quality. The entire setup is meant for phones, so there is a strong chance we’ll see it in action on the Nokia 9.
Word on the street is that the Nokia 9 has an in-display fingerprint scanner. If that’s true, it’ll have to compete with the likes OnePlus 6T and the as-yet-unreleased Samsung Galaxy S10. The new device’s price and photography will have to be very compelling to lure people away from the pair.
Other specs expected include a 5.9-inch QHD+ OLED display and Snapdragon 845 processor. The device might be called the Nokia 9 PureView when it arrives. The company’s PureView smartphones were well received back in the old days. We’ll have to wait and see whether HMD Global can revive that magic for a new era.
