HMD Global has an event planned for October 4 and everyone expects the Nokia 7.1 Plus to make its debut there. The handset has now appeared in a couple of live image leaks out of China’s Baidu and Weibo to give us a clearer idea of what it looks like.

Unfortunately, the photos only show the back of the Nokia 7.1 Plus. One shows off a new brown color option which we haven’t seen before. It’s darker than the brand’s usual copper shade. The other is a standard silver color. Both sport a protruding dual camera at the back and an LED flash unit at the left.

The fingerprint scanner is positioned below the module. The silver model is very reflective, which probably means we’re in for a shiny glass back. The frame looks like it’s made out of polished metal. Sadly, not much else can be gleaned from the leak.

It’s not even clear which variant we’re looking at here. Nokiapoweruser reports that HMD Global is planning to release two versions of the handset – one with a notch and the other without. The first will be the Nokia 7.1 Plus and the second the Nokia 7.1, if rumors are to be believed.

This would help explain all the leaks which have been pouring in lately, with some featuring cutouts and others skipping over them. The phone is supposedly called the Nokia Phoenix by insiders and runs on a Snapdragon 710 processor. It’ll likely be dubbed the Nokia X7 in China since that’s what the company’s been doing so far.

The Nokia X7 will most probably run a modified version of Android, while the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 7.1 Plus will get a hold of pure Android. Nearly all of HMD Global’s international phones are part of Android One, promising 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of security updates.
