OnePlus has two new devices in the pipeline: a 5G OnePlus phone and the OnePlus 7. One of them just got leaked in a new photo which seems to be from an internal company meeting. It looks pretty authentic since the company’s CEO, Pete Lau, can be seen sitting in a chair on the right.
It’s not every day we see images from boardrooms making their way online, making this a very unusual leak. As per tipster Ishan Agarwal, the snapshot was sent to him anonymously. Whoever this unknown tipster is, he’s probably getting fired since there were probably a limited number of people in the room.
OnePlus 5G Phone Leak: Real Or Fake?
Some have suggested that this is a publicity stunt to create hype for the upcoming device. We may never know the truth of the matter, but we can dissect the image itself. There’s a presentation in the background featuring a bright red handset with a circular camera ring and a Never Settle wallpaper.
The design is very different from the OnePlus 6T, looking less like a typical OnePlus device and more like a Motorola smartphone. There appears to be a prototype of the handset on the table and Lau can be seen examining a white version of the same phone.
The device is probably still in the initial stages of development, so there’s always a chance this prototype won’t make it to the end. Nobody knows for sure whether this is the OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 5G. The latter is set to come out by the end of May, so it’s probably the one being actively worked on at the moment.
Plus, OnePlus has already confirmed that the 5G OnePlus smartphone is independent of its flagship series. It would make sense for it to adopt a whole new look for the device. More leaks will probably clear up this confusion, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for them.
