The Oppo R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition have officially gotten announced at an event in China, coming to the fore after numerous leaks gave away a number of details. The company’s decided to go full speed ahead with an iPhone X-inspired full-screen notch design, but has kept the dual cameras at the back horizontal rather than vertical.
This is just as well, since it keeps the R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition from looking exactly like the iPhone X. Both smartphones get its hands on a 6.28-inch 19:9 OLED screen with a 90% screen-to-body ratio. The design is more or less the same, featuring a smooth metal frame which ties together the glass on the front and back.
Oppo’s also thrown in an AI assistant to help users out. It’s included both Face Unlock and fingerprint scanning as authentication options, so it does have an advantage over Apple in that respect. As for differences, the R15 packs a Helio P60 processor, a 3450mAh battery with VOOC fast charging support, and a 16MP + 5MP rear camera setup.
On the other hand, the Oppo R15 Dream Mirror Edition has a Snapdragon 660 SoC, a 3400mAh battery, and a 16MP + 20MP twin lens setup at the rear. The two have the same 20MP selfie shooter in common. The brand is touting the pair’s AI photography skills, claiming that it can recognize 16 scenes and 120 multi-scene combinations.
There’s even a dedicated AI chip inside the Oppo phones devoted to scanning over 296 points on a face for an enhanced smart beauty tool. The company has also come up with a professional portrait lightning effects feature in Portrait mode.
