Last we heard, HMD Global’s flagship Nokia 9 had gotten delayed to 2019 because it wasn’t ready for the spotlight. However, two separate reports claim the company hasn’t postponed the unveiling at all.

Retail sources told Nokiapoweruser that the Nokia 9 is still on course for a 2018 appearance. They claim HMD Global is organizing a big event to announce the phone at some point within the next few weeks. This means we might see the smartphone by the end of November or December.

Nokia 9: 2018 or 2019 Launch?

Interestingly, the insiders say there was never any intention to postpone the Nokia 9’s arrival to 2019. The brand’s apparently been keeping things low-profile to stop any leaks from emerging about the penta-lens camera setup.

It seems the complicated photography system is to blame for some production issues. Thankfully, these problems have supposedly gotten resolved. Active production on the Nokia 9 is said to have begun as a result. This presents a new concern though – scaling up production, especially in India where the firm follows a Make In India strategy.

The report notes that the Nokia 9 will get delayed to early 2019 only if something goes “exceptionally wrong.” Twitter tipster Nokia anew suggests a slightly different timeline. According to its data, HMD Global decided to move up the launch of the handset from MWC 2019 to an earlier date in 2019.

The MWC takes place at the end of February, so the unveiling could happen in January or early February. The leakster asserts that all this has happened because of media hype surrounding the Nokia phone. We’re not sure who to believe at this point.

It would be a good idea to launch the Nokia 9 in 2018 since it runs on the Snapdragon 845 processor. Next year will bring a new flagship SoC and the 845 will appear slightly outdated.
